Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why doesn't BRRSK carry 24K jewellery?

Usually, you won't be able to find 24-karat gold jewellery easily. This is simply because pure gold is a soft metal that tends to bend and scratch very easily. This is what makes pure gold quite impractical for daily wear.

As a matter of fact, within days of wearing a 24K gold ring you’d be able to notice scratches and deformations. This is why metal alloys are added to make ‘wearable’ gold stronger and more durable.

What is the difference between 10K, 14K and 18K gold?

Pure gold has 24 karats. Logically, it consists of 100% gold. You might find the inscription “750” somewhere on an 18K gold piece of jewellery. This means 18K gold only consists of 75% gold. The remaining 25% are different metal alloys that increase the hardness of the jewellery piece. You can find gold jewellery from 1K to 24K, although anything >10K is usually “antique” jewellery or sometimes not even considered “gold”.

What is the metal alloy composition for items that are 10K, 14K and 18K?

It’s cool to be smart, but it’s always smart to know your stuff, transparency is half the answer;

10K Gold - Metal Elements Composition:

                   41.7% Pure Gold (Au)

58.3% Metal Alloys (Such as Silver (AG), Nickel (Ni) and Zinc (Zn)

14K Gold - Metal Elements Composition:

                   58.3% Pure Gold (Au)

41.7% Metal Alloys (Such as Silver (AG), Nickel (Ni) and Zinc (Zn)

18K Gold - Metal Elements Composition:

                   75% Pure Gold (Au)

25% Metal Alloys (Such as Silver (AG), Nickel (Ni) and Zinc (Zn)

24K Gold - Metal Elements Composition

                   100% Pure Gold (Au)

If crypto isn’t managed by the bank or government how is it secure?

It’s secure because all transactions are vetted by a technology called a blockchain. A blockchain is similar to a banks balance sheet or ledger. A blockchain is a distributed database that is shared among the nodes of a computer network. The innovation of a blockchain guarantees the fidelity and security of a record of data, and generates trust without the need for a ‘trusted’ third party (Banks).

What’s a good time approximation for the completion of a custom order?

The best time approximation for a custom order would be entwined with its complexity and flexibility. For something more uniform a great timeline would be 3-6 weeks with delivery.

How are Diamonds Valued?

Diamonds are worth as much as you value them. i.e. no real distinction and no definite market price. As you see diamonds have a relative value but they also have a comparative value. A diamond’s value can be assessed by the 4C’s (Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut). These are then compared to other diamonds either of similar carat, colour, clarity and or cut.

  • What is a Diamond Carat?

A diamond carat is simply how much a diamond weighs. The metric ‘Carat’ is defined as 200 milligrams. Every carat then is divided in 100 points (Carat = 100 points). This provides for very precise weight measurements, to the 1/100th of a decimal place. Diamonds can also be referenced by their pointers alone, an 0.33C diamond can be expressed as a 33 pointer. Similarly, a 50 pointer diamond would be 0.5C or half a Carat.

*When all else is equal, diamond price increases with diamond carat because larger diamonds are rarer and more desirable. However, two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values (and prices) depending on three other factors of the diamond.

  • What do you mean by Diamond colour?

The colour scale for white or colourless diamonds range from D to Z. Any stone in this range is considered “normal coloured”. The most highly valued diamonds have no colour. Therefore the more colour a stone has the lower the grade. However, if a diamond makes it past the Z grade it’ll instantly go up in price. These diamonds has enough colour to be considered as a “fancy” diamond. If coloured diamonds whether pink, green, brown, yellow or blue have a certain concentration they’re automatically considered ‘fancy’. As the colour grade of the diamond goes up, so does the value - exponentially.
